Position Overview

Movement Generation Justice & Ecology Project (MG) seeks 2 temporary, part-time Volunteer Managers to coordinate volunteers during a special fundraising drive from August 1 to October 15, 2023. The Volunteer Managers will be supervised by one of MG’s fundraising directors and will participate periodically in Fundraising Team meetings.

In August 2023, MG will launch a bold fundraising campaign to raise $1 million to support a visionary new project. With support from the Fundraising Director, the Volunteer Manager will train volunteers to conduct inspiring direct asks with 750 donors. The Volunteer Managers will schedule and coordinate volunteer outreach sessions, directly motivate and support volunteers throughout the campaign, and help carry out appreciation activities.

Hours and Compensation

This is a non-exempt position, 10-15 hours per week at $50/hr

Movement Generation Justice & Ecology Project inspires and engages in transformative action towards the liberation and restoration of land, labor, and culture. We carry out trainings, retreats and strategy sessions with frontline communities, and develop cultural offerings (such as podcasts, web series, visual art, music…) that help us all envision an alternative to extractive economies. Required Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record coordinating successful donor fundraising campaigns, including making direct asks to major donors
  • Effective coach and relationship builder who can inspire others and help them achieve their goals.
  • Skilled and confident facilitator with a racial justice and disability justice lens
  • Confidence using zoom and virtual meeting/presentation tools such as google slides, jamboard, etc.
  • Exceptional project management, organization and time management skills
  • An orientation towards learning and development; willing to learn from mistakes, receive feedback, and give feedback to others
  • Able to hold sensitive information confidentially, and navigate urgent donor issues with care and responsibility

Core Responsibilities

VOLUNTEER TRAINING AND MANAGEMENT (90%)

  • Master MG’s direct ask pitch for donors and develop a complete understanding of the campaign as a whole, including short- and long-term goals, how the campaign connects to MG’s broader vision, and answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Facilitate 2-3 virtual sessions to train and inspire volunteers to carry out effective direct asks with donors.
  • Facilitate several group donor outreach sessions with volunteers to contact donors via email, text and phone.
  • Maintain updated records in spreadsheets and database about outreach efforts, donor pledges and confirmed donations
  • Conduct weekly personal follow up with volunteers to answer questions, resolve challenges, maintain motivation and ensure they meet their donor ask goals.
  • Plan and lead volunteer appreciation activities at the conclusion of the campaign.

MEETINGS (5-10%)

  • Periodically attend and participate in Fundraising Team meetings, as needed
  • Weekly check in/supervision meetings with Campaign Outreach Lead

Location & expected hours of work

Fully remote position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Daily schedule is flexible within the proximity of this time frame, within the scope of hours for this position, and will be decided in consultation with the supervisor. This role will require some evening hours for donor outreach sessions.
